Samson Spring Wheat Management Plan
Samson Wheat is a high yielding, intense management spring wheat variety. Samson is an Express/Knudson cross with the same high yield potential as Express but with a much improved disease package!
Planting Date – As early as possible. Samson has increased disease resistance but is still susceptible to scab, so planting early is important.
Planting Rate – Our goal is to have 1.8 million live plants per acre. Samson has approx. 15000 seeds per # so we need 2.25 bpa to achieve 1.8 million live plants.
Seed Treatment – Seed treatment is a must to get Samson off to a great start.
Fertilizer – Our nitrogen recommendation is 2.5# of total N per bushel of yield goal.
Crop Protection Products – Apply grass and broadleaf products as needed. 3 oz. of Headline must be applied with the herbicide. At 100% main stem heading apply a Proline/Folicur tank mix. More details will be coming from Bayer Crop Science on this tank mix.
Pre-harvest Aid – Pre-harvest Roundup is recommended for faster and more uniform dry down. This will allow us to get it harvested earlier to preserve milling quality.
